Project Overview

The Hero was the third pub to be opened by The Public House group, following the success of The Pelican and The Bull. With the overarching brand ethos firmly established during the Brand Strategy phase—rooted in honouring traditional pub values, fostering a deep connection to the land, and celebrating simplicity and authenticity—the next step was to develop the distinct character and visual identity of the venue.

Extensive research into the pub’s history and its surrounding area led us to our central figure: the dog. This discovery stemmed from a painting depicting the Battle of Maida, the historic event that originally inspired the pub’s name, The Hero of Maida.

While it was essential for each pub to have its own unique story and a strong sense of place, it was equally important that they felt cohesive, bound together by shared values and a common identity within The Public House family.
